The island of Noirmoutier has been accessible since 1971 by a bridge. With a length of 583 meters, it goes over the gorge of Fromentine to connect the island with the continent. You can also reach the island by the submersible road “Passage du Gois” but only at low tide.
The town of l’Epine can be visited very well by bicycle. It offers visitors walks in the marshes or woods. The “Océanile” water park is an unmissable attraction on the island for children and parents.
The narrow lanes of the town center of Noirmoutier will have you discover the old mansions grouped around the castle, the church and the port. On the north shore of the old port, the shops, the market, the cafe terraces and restaurants create a very lively atmosphere.
L’Herbaudière is the fishing port and marina on the island.
Barbâtre is at the gateway to the island: several hamlets succeed each other. The coast is protected by dams, along the bay of “>Bourgneuf”>.
La Guérinière is located in the narrowest part of the island. It is the capital of oyster farming.
Le Vieil is a small village full of charm with narrow streets lined up with stone walls and roses.
Bois de la Chaize
This very unique place on the island of Noirmoutier has changed little since the last century. The pine forest and oak trees shelter the flowering mimosa in the middle of the winter. The beautiful old villas blend harmoniously with the rocky nature of the coast. As the painter “Renoir” said: it is an unforgettable place.
